A New Lump of Clay – Jan 6, 2025 by Mike D. Whitney
I know nothing about creating pottery, but I am fascinated by watching a master
potter work a lump of clay on a wheel into a beautiful vase, cup, or bowl. There is
almost an intimacy between the potter and the clay on the wheel as the
craftsman (or craftswoman) feels the clay and applies pressure on just the right
spots to form the clay into the shape he/she desires.
It is no wonder that God uses the potter in Jeremiah chapter 18 to describe
Himself as He works with the stubborn nation of Israel. Let me share verses 3-6:
“So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel.
But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands;
So the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.”
Then the word of the LORD came to me. He said, ‘Can I not do with you, Israel,
as this potter does?’ declares the LORD. ‘Like clay in the hand of the potter,
so are you in My hand, Israel.’”
Dad, mom, teenager? What was 2024 like for you? Does your life seem like a
marred lump of clay? Do you think you are damaged goods with no hope of being
put back together?
On the basis of the word of God, I’m here to tell you that God loves you and is
fully capable of transforming your life into one that is full of peace, joy, and
purpose! His will be a hands-on job. But His hands will be gentle, yet, firm as He
slowly makes you more like His Son, Jesus Christ.
First, however, you must believe in Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on the cross was to pay
for your sins, then give your life to Him to do with as He sees fit. Then your
relationship with your Creator/Master Potter will begin. Will you start your
journey today.
