The Ultimate Freedom

Many in our country believe that freedom is being able to do whatever you want
when you want. But if everyone lived that way there would be anarchy. True
freedom is found elsewhere, but where? The truth found in Scripture seems
paradoxical to mankind, but it is true, nonetheless, that is that true freedom is
discovered in full surrender to Jesus Christ.
Jesus said in John 8:31-32, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free!” Note that, to hold to
Jesus’ teaching is to surrender to all that He taught in complete obedience. THEN,
you will know the truth and the truth will set you free, not until.
What Jesus is saying here is that believing lies leads us into bondage. The lie that
alcohol or drugs will take our problems away leads to addiction. The lie that
sexual promiscuity will lead to love and acceptance leads to isolation and
loneliness. The lie that power leads to fulfillment leads only to arrogance and
bondage to self, the worst kind of bondage there is.
Instead, of these lies, and others, we need to believe the truth Jesus taught and
live by it. True love and acceptance are found in believing the gospel – that Jesus
paid for all your sins on the cross because He loves you and would rather die for
you than to live without you.
Your sins separate you from a relationship with Him, much like when a child steals
money from his father’s bedside draw and withdraws from his dad because of
guilt. When the son confesses and turns away from stealing from his father, dad
forgives him, and the relationship is restored.
Friend, will you admit your sins to God and turn away from them so He can
forgive you and make you His child? Then find out how Jesus says to live in the
Bible and obey Him. He will give you His Holy Spirit to help you do it. Then you will
know the truth and the truth will set you free!
