The Power of Our Words – Part 2
(July 21, 2025)
Can our words create reality? Does what we say obligate God to do what we ask
or “declare?” Is true faith believing that we receive everything that we ask of
God? The answer to these questions is the difference between true faith and
pseudo faith. I hope that by the end of this article you will know which kind of
faith you have.
The belief that our words can create reality is found in many eastern religions and
new age teaching. It is not found in the Bible. Many false teachers quote Mark
11:23-24 as proof that all we need to do is speak what we want and God will do
our will. But that is not the whole story. 1 John 5:14 says, “that if we ask anything
according to God’s will, He hears us.” God always has the final decision, my friend!
True faith is believing that God knows best and trusting Him for the outcome of
our requests.
But where the name it and claim it teaching goes wrong the most is that all the
focus is on getting what we want in this world, not on accomplishing God’s will on
earth. Jesus said in Matthew 6:19, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on
earth…But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven.” The way that we store up
treasures in heaven is not by demanding God meets all our desires but in obeying
His will and working for His kingdom to come.
Finally, our most treasured “possession” should be Jesus! Our relationship with
Him is worth selling all we have in order to obtain (Matthew 13:44-46). “Godliness
with contentment is great gain,” Paul said in 1 Timothy 6:6. True faith trusts the
sovereign God no matter what.
So, what kind of faith do you have? Are you trying to manipulate God with your
“faith” to get what you want, or are you relying on Him to give you what is best?
Jim Elliot said, “God gives His best to those who leave the choice with Him.” Isn’t it
time you started to trust God with true faith?
