365 Valentine’s Day’s

365 Valentine’s Day’s
(February 9, 2026)

My father-in-law, Walter, used to say to his wife, Doris, tongue in cheek, “I told
you on our wedding day that I love you and if I change my mind, I’ll let you know!”
In truth, he loved her dearly, and showed her in many ways, every day. I believe
this was the key to their marriage’s ability to endure over the long haul. While
Walter did not bring Doris flowers and chocolates every day, he brought her gifts
much more enduring. Presents like: a listening ear, respect, his time and
undivided attention.
These are the gifts that build life into a relationship. Neglect to bestow these on
your spouse and the vitality will slowly seep out of your relationship. What will be
left is that you will become simply roommates living separate lives in the same
house. Like the skin that is shed by a snake, the form will be there but there is no
life inside.
But, friend, if this describes your marriage, I can assure you with absolute
confidence, based on the word of God, that your relationship with your husband
or wife can be restored if you will recognize where you are and take the steps
necessary to rebuild your life together. It will take time, some tough
conversations, active listening and focused effort but God can “restore the years
the locusts have eaten” (Joel 2:25).
I know that what I am saying is not the total answer to your relationship
problems. My only purpose here is to help you realize your present situation and
encourage you to keep on trying to work on your marriage. Your relationship is
worth it! However, you may need professional counseling from a godly counselor.
One last thing. If you have never put Jesus Christ at the center of your
relationship, you need to do that. He can and will give you the wisdom and
strength to navigate the path ahead.
Don’t give up! Your best years are waiting for you. Will you surrender your life to
Jesus? He loves you and knows what is best. Then celebrate Valentine’s Day every
day!
