The Cross, The Grave, The Glory

The Cross, The Grave, The Glory

(April 5, 2026)

James 4:10 says, “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you
up.” This is a command to us, for sure. But as I thought about this verse this
morning, the Lord directed my attention to our Lord Jesus Christ and the fact that
He exemplified this verse perfectly. Philippians 2:7-8 states, “… He made Himself
nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And
being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient
to death – even death on a cross!”
Jesus went to the cross for our sake. Without His sacrifice we would be hopelessly
lost forever! No matter our life circumstances, we should be full of joy if only
because of this. “The joy of the LORD is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10). Jesus
died to defeat man’s most fearsome enemy – death.
Jesus Christ was buried, like all men who die. But then, by His own power He rose
from that grave to live forever! As Colossians says, He is the first-born from
among the dead. In other words, while other people have been resurrected, they
all eventually died again. However, when Christ arose from the dead, He
conquered death once for all never to die again. And those who believe and
receive Jesus as Savior and Lord will never die either. Praise God!
But there’s more! For Christ, He was and is and will be glorified by the Father for
all eternity! “Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the
name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that
Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Phil. 2:9-11).
This Resurrection Day season, have you bowed your heart to the Lordship of Jesus
Christ? He IS Lord, you know. You have a choice – you can bow before Him now
and receive Him as your Savior and Lord, or you can refuse Him now and bow
before Him in eternity as a conquered enemy.
What is keeping you from receiving Jesus as your Lord and Savior? Would you be
willing to receive Him right now?
