In the first century, in the Roman Province of Palestine, the Jews were forced to abide by the Pax Romana, the Roman Peace. Rome maintained a quasi-tranquility through brute force, but trouble was always just beneath the surface.
There were murmurings of a Jewish Messiah, who’s arrival was believed to be imminent. According to the prophet Daniel in chapter 9 “Know and understand this: From the issuing of the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler comes, there will be seven ‘sevens’, and sixty-two ‘sevens’. That period of 483 years had arrived. The coming of Messiah was very near. It was close enough for the LORD to have told Simeon that, even though he was an old man, he would see the Lord’s Christ (Luke 2:25-26).
It was into this time of pseudo peace that the Prince of Peace was born. But ironically, He did not come to bring peace to the world at this time. In Matt. 10:34 Jesus says “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.”
On one side you have the children who know His peace by knowing Him; on the other side are the children of the enemy of peace, the devil. He, and his children hate Jesus Christ and sow violence and hatred against the Prince of Peace and His children. Which one are you?
Are you a child of the Prince of Peace because you know Him, Jesus Christ, the Son of God? If you are, then you have His peace in you through the Holy Spirit. If you do not have the Holy Spirit, then you don’t possess Him or His peace. Wouldn’t you like to? Aren’t you tired of resisting the Savior who loves you and died on the cross for you? Please, repent of going your own way; invite Jesus into your life and follow Him. He will give you eternal life and everlasting peace.
