Are You Restless?

Are You Restless?

You know the feeling, don’t you? It is late at night, and you are still wide awake. You toss and turn. You just cannot get comfortable. Your body and mind are restless. You cannot turn your thoughts off and sleep. On and on it goes until the wee hours of the morning. Finally, just before the alarm goes off, you drift off only to be rudely awakened a few short minutes later by the clock radio and a disgustingly cheerful voice announcing the start of a new day.

No one likes a poor night’s sleep. But what is even more of a burden is a life that is restless, a life full of activity but no peace. Chasing shadows that promise fulfillment, but never deliver. Worry and a disturbed mind is an unwelcome intruder that robs even the happiest moments of their joy.

Friend, is this you? In your quieter moments do you wonder if the rest you desperately long for is even attainable? Well, I have good news for you! There is One who not only promises rest for your mind and soul, but also has the ability to deliver on that promise! His name is Jesus Christ. He is your Creator. He knows you personally and intimately, and He loves you with an everlasting love that does not depend on your performance or even your character.

Here is His promise found in Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Augustine said, “…you have made us and drawn us to yourself, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.” The reason you are so restless is that you were made for a relationship with your Creator, and you will never be satisfied until you settle things with Him.

But there is a problem, and it is not with God. You have been living in rebellion against Him all your life, refusing to believe on His Son and so you are separated from the God who made you. But it does not have to remain that way.

Today, right now, you can turn to God, admit your sin to Him, turn away from it and ask Jesus to save you from it. He promised to forgive you, receive you, and make you His child forever. Then, and only then, will you find rest.
