Begin Your New Year at the Cross! Part 1
God sees time all at once. He knows the beginning and the end and everything in
between all at the same time. That is not to say that God doesn’t pay attention to
time here on earth. Ecclesiastes 3 says, “To everything there is a season and a
time for every purpose under heaven.”
It is time to begin a new year. For us humans new beginnings are important; and
new beginnings are important to God, too. In Isaiah 43:19 God says, “See, I am
doing a new thing! Now it springs up, do you not perceive it?”
Many people roll from one year into another with little thought or purpose. Some
start the new year with great determination to “do better.” New Year’s
resolutions abound only to fall into oblivion after the first few weeks, or even
days. Is there a way to start this new year that guarantees success? Yes! And if
you stay with me, I’ll explain how.
The answer is simple, but don’t let its simplicity deceive you into thinking it is
ineffective. The solution is the cross of Jesus Christ! At the cross God made
effective new beginnings guaranteed.
If you are not a believer in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you must start
here! Scripture says you are dead in your sins and as long as you stay that way,
effective new beginnings will always elude you. If you will acknowledge your sins
before a holy God, turn away from them and ask Christ to save you, He will make
you alive! 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old
things have passed away, behold all things have become new!”
Once you have passed from death into life, you will cease to live in darkness and
live in God’s light. Colossians 1:13 says, “For He [Christ] has rescued us from the
dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves. In
Whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”
Won’t you humble yourself before God and believe on Christ, right now? He waits
to give you a brand-new life!
