Brain Transplant

Ever feel like you need a brain transplant? You set down to accomplish a task and the neurons don’t want to fire correctly and nothing seems to connect, or they fire all at once and your thoughts resemble a swarm of bees buzzing around in your head. The Word of God calls this confusion, and there is a solution.

Paul said in 1 Corinthians 14:33 that “God is not the author of confusion, but of peace…” He is not the one bringing in the multiple, seemingly simultaneous thoughts that confuse us and sometimes render us frustrated and ineffective in our work. The enemy of our souls is doing that, and he is good at it.

The truth is we can only think one thought at a time; however, our thoughts can fire so rapidly that it may seem that they are occurring all at once. Also, our thoughts can seem to change direction with such amazing speed that we are sure they are happening all at the same time. They are not.

This is great news! Because God made us to think only one thought at a time, we can escape the confusion and take control of our thoughts. It’s true! If you have the Holy Spirit in you, He will give you the self-control and help you discipline your mind, just as you would your body in an athletic activity.

Isaiah 26: 3 says “You [God] will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed [focused] on You, because he trusts in You.” (NKJ) This is the beginning point of taking control of your thoughts. Because the Holy Spirit is in you, you CAN focus your thoughts on your heavenly Father. Reciting Holy Scripture to yourself or thinking about the cross and Jesus’ sufferings for you is a great way to get your mind on the right track.

Remember 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (self-control). [Emphasis mine]. I will state this truth again – because, as God’s child, His Holy Spirit is in you, you DO have the power, love and self-control in you to take control of your thoughts! Trust your Lord. He will do it!
