Help for the Doubter - Part 2
Have you committed the “unpardonable sin?” Have you committed the one sin that God will not forgive? So many people worry themselves into this dark hole from which there sometimes seems no way out. It is the source of their doubt. So, how can one know whether they have committed this sin?
First let me say that is you are worried about it there is hope! A soul who has committed the unpardonable sin doesn’t even give it a thought. They are committed to total unbelief in Jesus Christ as God’s Son and only Savior, and total rejection of His sacrificial death on the cross for their sins. They flat out don’t believe it.
It really is true that one can only doubt something they believe in. The very fact that you have doubt means there is an element of faith in you. The question now is what to do with your doubt. I suggest that you do what John the Baptist did when he had doubts about Jesus while he languished in prison because of Herod. John took his doubts to Jesus and Jesus encouraged him. Jesus will do the same for you! Tell Him all that is on your mind. He understands and He can take it. He will not be shocked or disgusted, and He will NOT reject you!
Then as you talk it over with Jesus, immerse yourself into the Word of God. Romans 10:17 says that “…faith comes through hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.” As you study the Word of God, the stronger your faith will become. And like the man with the demon-possessed son in Mark 9, it is ok to ask God to increase your faith – “Lord, I believe, help me overcome my unbelief!”
Finally, determine in your heart you are going to just take God at His word. Study faith building passages such as John 6:37, Romans 10:13 and 1 John 5:13. Just know that God wants you to be secure in your salvation more than you do. He is so faithful! He will meet you right where you are and take you to where He wants you to be. Remember, Philippians 2:13 says “…for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose.”
