How Deep is God’s Grace? Part 2
I am going to make a radical statement, but, before you reject it out of hand, please give it some careful consideration and review the scriptures I am about to share. The statement is this: “You can’t out sin God’s grace, you can accept it or reject it, but you can’t out sin it!”
First, let’s take a moment to consider what grace is. The standard explanation is this: grace is an unmerited favor, or put another way God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense. God’s grace has nothing whatsoever to do with our performance or works. God gives grace freely to the undeserving sinner when he/she repents and places their faith in Jesus Christ’s finished work on the cross…when they accept God’s offer of grace. “For it is by grace you are saved, through faith, and that not of yourselves it is the gift of God, not of works so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9.
Now, we learned last time that God saved us knowing that we would still sin sometimes after we were brought into His family. This is important to realize because grace doesn’t make us perfect, only forgiven. So, let me ask you, what sin can you think of that wasn’t included in your forgiveness at the time of your salvation? What sin did Christ not pay for when He died on the cross for you? You can’t think of any, can you? That’s because there isn’t any. So you see, you can’t out sin God’s grace. God will forgive you of anything every time you come to Him in humility and repentance…Period.
Now our enemy, Satan, does not want you to know that. And he certainly doesn’t want you to believe that. Why? Because when you do, you will start to live in a freedom that will make an unbelieving world want what you have and his kingdom is threatened.
So, friend, believe it and go live in the freedom that Christ paid for you to have. Galatians 5:1 “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free!” We are not set free from sin in order to sin but to live a holy life. Next week, we will talk about what it is to reject God’s grace.
