If You Only Knew…

Have you ever had any of these thoughts: “I don’t dare be who I really am because then nobody will like me” or “If people really knew me they wouldn’t like me” or “I wish I knew who I really was, I have worn different masks so long I don’t even know anymore.” I have been there, and it is a lonely, exhausting way to live.

You see, each of us longs to know someone intimately and be known by another intimately, yet accepted and loved for who we really are inside, not for the mask we wear. It is because this unconditional kind of love is so rare that people live out the lyrics to Johnny Lee’s song “looking for love in all the wrong places, looking for love in too many faces…” Is that you?

If it is, I have great news for you! I know Someone who knows you intimately, who was there for every sordid detail of your life, and yet is absolutely crazy about you! In fact this person loves you so much that He gave His life so you could know His unconditional love forever. His name is Jesus. He is God’s Son; He suffered and died on a cruel Roman cross 2,000 years ago to pay for all your sins and offers you unconditional love and eternal life if you will turn from your sins and follow Him.

Wouldn’t you love to take the mask off and be real with yourself and others? Trying to be perfect or living like a chameleon in order to gain other people’s acceptance or approval is a no-win situation because the rules keep changing. Everyone has different expectations and to try to meet them is impossible and exhausting, isn’t it? 

Why not come to Jesus in humble repentance and say “Jesus, I am a sinful man. I have been trying to please everyone but you. Please forgive my sins.
