Pentecost and the Man of God
Fifty days after God resurrected His Son, Jesus Christ, from the dead, having died on the cross to pay for the sins of all people, God did another amazing thing – He sent His Holy Spirit to His Church. It is called the Day of Pentecost. God’s purpose was that His Spirit would live in believers and empower them for the work of being witnesses of the resurrection of Jesus Christ to the world (Acts 1:8).
If you have been born from above you have the Holy Spirit living in you right now, and you are a witness to the fact that Jesus Christ is alive! Acts 1:8 says, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
So, the obvious question is: Are you being a witness to the fact of the resurrection of Jesus Christ? When was the last time you and I prayed that God would open an opportunity to share Christ with someone? If it has been a while, will you join me in starting to pray for that again?
Now, while the Holy Spirit empowers us for witnessing, He also empowers us for other tasks as well. Did you know that the Spirit of God in you wants to empower you to live as a godly man, unencumbered by guilt and sin?
Are you in bondage to some sin right now? If you are God’s child, you already have all you need to overcome that sin living in you by the Holy Spirit. Jesus said in John 8:36, “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
But you will never be free until you surrender your will to Jesus Christ. If you will make Jesus the Lord of your life, He will then set you free from the sin that so easily enslaves you to serve Him and His purposes on earth. There is no greater freedom than to be a slave of the Lord Jesus!
Do you lack the wisdom and self-control to be a godly father to your children, or a loving husband to your wife? God gave you His Holy Spirit to empower you to do all these things and more. In fact, without the power of the Holy Spirit, you CANNOT be a godly anything! But the good news is “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” Surrender your will completely to Jesus Christ today, He will change you from the inside out.
