Procrastination – The Great Thief!

Procrastination - The Great Thief

Did you hear about the folks who formed a Procrastinators Club? They still have not had their first meeting…

Ok, so it’s a lame joke. But the truth is, in God’s sight procrastination is not a laughing matter. The word itself is not found in Scripture, but there are many principles that refer to the characteristics of the act.

Procrastination is defined as “the act of willfully delaying the doing of something that should be done.” Some reasons for procrastination include laziness, fear of failure, and defiance (See the book of Jonah).

Procrastination regarding work is condemned in Scripture. Proverbs 20:4 says, “Sluggards do not plow in season, so at harvest time they look but find nothing.”  As godly men, we are to be diligent in our work (Colossians 3:23). As men who profess a relationship with God, we should be the best workers in the company.

In some cases, procrastination is deadly. Hebrews 3:7 says, “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts…” That is why 2 Corinthians 6:2 pleads, “In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you. I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.”

Procrastination is a thief! If you are a believer, it will rob you of your joy. It will steal your peace and it will come between you and your Savior because it is a sin and sin will interfere with your fellowship with God.

If you are not a child of God through faith in Jesus Christ, you are God’s enemy and procrastination will steal your soul. You are outside of His family. But you do not have to stay there!

Friend, have you been sensing a tug at your heart that God is calling you to repent of your sins and believe on Jesus Christ for salvation? James 4:13-14 warns us that we do not know what will happen tomorrow. Every time you refuse His grace, your heart gets a little harder. I urge you, receive Christ now!

Christian, do you know what God wants you to do and yet you will not obey Him? Stop rebelling and get right with Him. Please return to your Savior with all your heart! You cannot win fighting against God. He WILL discipline you because He loves you. But it will be painful. Won’t you surrender right now?
