The Wicked Evangelist
I would like to make a very bold statement. No matter what you believe about Jesus Christ now, someday you will acknowledge Him as Lord of all (Philippians 2:10-11). The choice you have is whether you will do this from heaven or hell. You see everyone in heaven acknowledged Jesus as Lord while here on earth; those in hell did not. Let me remind you of a story Jesus told in Luke 16: 19-31. I believe this is not a parable, but a true account about real people.
The rich man lived his life for himself with no regard for God. The poor beggar, Lazarus, loved God but was poor. The rich man went to hell, while Lazarus went to paradise. While in hell, the rich man, though in torment, became an evangelist. He beseeched Abraham to send Lazarus to his five brothers to warn them and be saved, hence, the title of this talk.
It is fascinating that Abraham told the rich man that his brothers had Moses and the prophets to warn them and that if his brothers did not listen to them they would not listen even if one from the dead warned them. Friend, let me share the simple truth with you.
You have sinned against a holy God and deserve hell. But God loves you so much that He made a way, at great cost to Himself, for your sins to be paid for by sending Jesus Christ, His perfect Son, to die on a cross. If you believe He paid your sin debt and rose from the dead, then you will be His child forever.
So, the question before you today is, “Will you believe? The Bible says, “Today if you hear His voice...” (Hebrews 3:7), and again “…I tell you NOW [Emphasis mine] is the time of God’s favor, NOW [Emphasis mine] is the day of salvation.”
You can bow your knees now in humility before Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior; or you can bend your knees in humiliation in hell after you pass from this life. Either way you WILL bow. It is your choice. Please choose Christ now.
