What Does True Worship Look Like? Part 1
(May 12, 2025)
One Sunday because of a snowstorm I was home looking for a message on TV when I came across Adrian Rogers’ broadcast, “Love Worth Finding.” Even though Pastor Rogers has gone to be with Jesus, his messages are still powerful, and this Sunday was no exception. He spoke on the characteristics of true worship, and outlined three – Regeneration, Authentication, and Regulation.
In this article and the next two articles I would like to examine these three aspects of true worship and while the basic concepts came from Adrian’s message, the words are my own. First, we look at regeneration.
While millions, maybe even billions of people go to a church each Sunday, only the child of God offers worship the Father truly accepts. Regeneration is when a person is born from above, or born-again (John 3: 3) and true worship is impossible without it. Proverbs 15:8 says, “The LORD detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but the prayer of the upright pleases Him.”
But Mike, you may say, I’m a good person, you mean if I’m not one of those “born-again’s” then God hates my worship? Yes, my friend, that is true. You see, the problem is that no one is “good” in God’s sight because to Him good is not a relative term. Good, to God, means perfect. Jesus said to the rich young ruler, “only God is good.” Do you measure up to that standard? I don’t. And neither do you.
So, you may ask, “What am I to do?” Your only hope is to humble yourself, turn to God and admit that you are a wretched sinner, incapable of doing anything good on your own. Then repent from your self-righteousness and ask Jesus to save you from your sins. Only then will your worship be acceptable to God the Father. There is no time to waste. Won’t you turn to Jesus now?
