What Does True Worship Look Like? Part 3

(May 26, 2025)

For the past three weeks we have been answering the question: “What Does True Worship Look Like?” According to the late Pastor Adrian Rogers there are at least three aspects of true worship: Regeneration, Authentication, and Regulation.

Jesus said in John 4:24 that the Father seeks people who worship Him in Spirit and in truth. Only those who have been born again by the Holy Spirit can worship God in Spirit (Regeneration), the Holy Spirit authenticates one’s worship with the Father, and the Word of God regulates our worship so that we worship Him in truth.

How does the Word of God regulate our worship? Well, it enables us to worship the Father according to the truth of who He really is. The Word reveals God as: One who is outside the universe He created, i.e. He is NOT one with all things as some teach. Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” The Word teaches us that God has a will. Isaiah 53:10, “Yet it was the LORD’s will to crush Him (Jesus) and cause Him to suffer.” We learn from the Word that God hates sin and loves people (John 3:16-17). And we learn that God will not accept worship from people who have not come through Jesus Christ, “Jesus said, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me’” (John 14:6).

These are just a few of the truths about God that the Word teaches us. So, let me ask you. Does your worship on Sunday morning fulfill these three criteria? Are you born again by the Holy Spirit? Does He lead you in worship? And are you worshipping the one true God according to the truth of His Word, or are you trying to make God into your own image of what you want Him to be?

I encourage you to give careful consideration to answering these critical questions. Then make the necessary adjustments in your life.
