What Will Be Said About You?

What Will Be Said About You?
Aug 25, 2025

Dr. James Dobson, Christian child psychologist and founder of Focus on the
Family, died this past Thursday, August 21, 2025. He was 89. As my wife, Olive,
and I read some of the articles written about Dr. Dobson, we started to talk about
what our family and other people might say about us after we die. It was quite a
serious conversation for an early Saturday morning, but one that needed to
happen and that all of us should think about at some point in our lives.
While I never knew Dr. Dobson personally, I listened to his Focus on the Family
broadcast a lot and heard his testimony many times. He was totally unashamed of
his love for his Lord Jesus Christ and his passion to take as many people as
possible with him to heaven. He said many times that no matter what he
accomplished in life if his family did not follow him to be with the Lord, it was not
worth it.
I feel the same way. My chief desire is to know that all my children and
grandchildren, and my posterity meet me in heaven with the Lord Jesus. So, that
brings me to the big question – “what am I doing now to help make that
happen?” It is a very convicting question for me. Like most of you, I am very busy.
Very often I am too busy. If I am too busy to invest in my children’s and
grandchildren’s lives then I betray myself when I say my chief desire is to see my
family follow me to heaven. What will be said about me in this regard when I am
gone?
What about you, my friend? Is what you are doing now bringing you closer to the
real desire of your heart or has secondary things crowded out the important
thing? I encourage you and challenge you, as I do myself, to make the decisions
now that will align with the most important goals of your heart.
Make that play date with your granddaughter. Take your grandson with you
golfing or fishing. Take your son or daughter out to lunch. It doesn’t matter if they
are grown and married. They still need time with you. If your relationship is

strained, then start now to reconcile. It’s never too late to do the right thing. God
be with you!
