Why Did Jesus Christ Have to Die? Part 3
(April 28, 2025)
For the last two weeks we have heard nothing but “bad news.” The first week revealed that God is so holy and pure that no one can go near Him. In the second week, we learned that God’s holiness demands that His justice sends us to hell to pay for our wickedness.
Friend, the reason I spent so much time on the bad news is because the good news doesn’t make any sense without it. If mankind is so good, why is there so much evil in the world? It is because there is something basically wrong with mankind. Left to his own devices, he is rebellious and wicked. Romans 3:10 says, “There is none righteous, no not one!” That means you, and it means me.
Every wise parent knows that rebellion in a child must be dealt with swiftly and decidedly. God’s justice demands that our rebellion be punished in hell and separation from Him forever. But the Good News is God would rather die for us than live without us.
Therefore, “God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish, but will have everlasting life” (John 3:16). “God demonstrated His love for us that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
Friend, God loves you so much that He punished His own Son so that you would escape His wrath if you would only turn from your unbelief and believe in Christ as your only hope of salvation. Ask Him to save you right now and He will!
All your sins have been paid for by Christ when He hung on that cross. His blood was shed for you. Everything for you to be saved from God’s wrath has been done for you. Will you receive God’s free gift of salvation right this minute?
Jesus said in John 6:37 “All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never turn away.” Won’t you come?
