You Can Start Today!

Are you a believer in Jesus Christ but you blew it big time yesterday? I mean you sinned a great sin. Or are you are trapped in a sinful habit that has you in its merciless grip and you are beginning to think that you cannot change. I want you to know on the authority of God’s holy Word that there is abundant hope for you today! 

Think about this. When Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay for your sins, all your sins were in the future. He died for you knowing every sin you were going to commit in your life, yet He died for you anyway. He loves you that much!  

Now, since this is true, don’t you think that Jesus is ready and willing to forgive the great sin you committed yesterday? That sin was paid for by His shed blood 2,000 years ago. What you need to do is humble yourself before Him, repent, and ask His forgiveness. 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” All of this means one thing – that you can start fresh each day because of His great mercy! Chuck Swindoll said, “It is never too late to start doing what is right!” 

But, you may be asking, what if I am committing the same sin over and over again? How many times will God forgive me of that sin? The answer to that question is simply this – God will forgive you every time you repent and ask because His grace is greater than ALL your sin. But there is a danger. 

The more we commit a sin, the less sensitive we become to it and the danger is that we will begin to justify it. When we do that, we stop repenting and humbling ourselves before God and seeking His forgiveness. Then we are in danger of His discipline. But remember, God’s discipline, believe it or not, is a good thing! For it is better to be disciplined by the Lord, than to be condemned with the world (1 Corinthians 11:32).  

So, friend, if you have sinned, know beyond any doubt that God will forgive you every time because Jesus paid for your sin. But if you are caught in a habitual sin humble yourself before the Lord and deal mercilessly with it. With the help of the Holy Spirit put it to death, reckon it dead, and forsake it. But if you are being disciplined for that sin, thank God for His discipline and repent. He is treating you as His child. Stop your stubbornness and surrender to the Holy Spirit in you. Why wait? You can start today!
